4 Clues To
Know Your Life's Purpose

CHALLENGE Yourself to:
KNOW YOUR LIFE'S PURPOSE
Interestingly, it can be easy to feel like we have purpose in life when life is grand for us, when we seem to get constant approval, recognition or acknowledgement about our accomplishments, when we can somehow get along well with almost everyone in our life, when we can manage to pay our bills on time, and when we can easily go with the flow and stay in the zone; we can feel that we are in our "happy place" about life, as if perhaps there's not a care in the world.
However, whenever we go through one failure after another, yet another heartbreak or disappointment, another setback still, when it seems like everything we set our hands to manages to crumble right before our eyes, when we feel unworthy or undeserving to experience joy and happiness -- or we can't imagine the possibility of experiencing joy or happiness even if we so desire because everything that could ever go wrong actually seems to go wrong, we may begin to ask the question, "Why me?"
Perhaps you believe nothing seems to ever work out for you -- that practically nothing seems to work in your favor. You may feel like you can never seem to get a break no matter how hard you try, even when you may think you are putting forth the effort to do the right thing. You may begin to question your very existence. You may begin to ask yourself, "Why was I born? Why am I even here? What's my reason for living? What is the purpose of anything? What is my life's purpose?
What does purpose mean?
So glad you asked...
Purpose is defined as, the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists; the reason why something is done or used; the aim or intention of something; the feeling of being determined to do or achieve something; the aim or goal of a person; what a person is trying to do, become, etc.
Because you exist means there is purpose for your life. We all have a purpose in life. Whether in good times, and not so good times, we still have a life's purpose. Our purpose isn't nonexistent or doesn't stop just because things may not be going our way or as planned. If you are at a place in life where you may feel like giving up and throwing in the towel, perhaps it's time to do some serious soul searching and dig just a little deeper to understand the significance of your life.
Here are 4 clues that can help you identify your strongest assets to know your life's purpose:
1. IDENTIFY WHAT SUBJECT MATTER MOST BURDENS YOUR HEART
Perhaps you yourself experienced a childhood trauma or you witnessed a traumatic event that effected someone else, which has remained embedded in your mind. Perhaps you have experienced major relationship issues that completely devastated and humiliated you, and you would not desire anyone else to experience anything similar.
For example, if you grew up in a dysfunctional home, lived in poverty or were abused, you may have a strong burden toward helping others that you witness experiencing similar challenges in their life. At times, you may find yourself sobbing or bubbling with pity from within whenever you see a hungry child, a homeless person on the streets or a helpless person who has been abused. In your heart you can't stand to see what's happening to others and you strongly desire to do something -- anything -- that can alleviate that person from suffering and be removed from the situation they are in.
What's the one worthy cause that draws you in -- that you feel compelled to be a part of because you believe in your heart that you can help make a difference in at least one person's life by doing so? This clue most likely indicates this is one of your assets -- your heart's strongest burden.
2. IDENTIFY WHAT YOU DO MOST NATURALLY
Perhaps you have a talent that comes easy to you. Perhaps you can operate in your talent without having to think about what step should be taken next to follow through with whatever you are doing. Others may oftentimes find themselves in awe and amazement at what you do because it may seem too difficult for them to think about having to do what you do in like manner.
For example, for as long as you can remember, you may be naturally talented at a particular sport, playing a certain musical instrument, singing, decorating, solving math equations, writing captivating stories or have a unique gift for gab. That one thing you are so talented at, is more than likely something you were never taught how to do initially. However the more you do it, the better you get at it. And whatever that one thing is that you do so well, it comes natural and easy to you, like breathing. This clue most likely indicates this is one of your assets -- your strongest natural talent.
3. IDENTIFY WHAT YOU ARE MOST SKILLED AT
Throughout the course of your life, from chores you learned to do at home -- to how you adapted to circumstances in your environment, from how you learned how to process subject matter to study academically in school -- to various duties, tasks and responsibilities you learned while working at different jobs, from how well you've learned how to deal with everyday life challenges -- to the way in which you interact with others, has enabled you to develop certain skills along the way.
For example, perhaps you are skilled at cleaning or cooking. You may be skilled at office work or managing others. Or perhaps you are skilled and trained at bringing comfort and healing to others physically, spiritually or psychologically. Perhaps you have become skilled in makeup, hair styling or fashion design. Or perhaps you are skilled at filmmaking, producing and directing. Or perhaps computer software programming or engineering is what you have developed a skill in.
What you are most skilled at may not necessarily be what you are most passionate about. However, your learned trade or credentials received over time may have positioned you toward developing a particular skill that is much needed and can help you earn a substantial legitimate income by adding value and quality to the lives of others. This clue most likely indicates this is one of your assets - your strongest skill.
4. IDENTIFY WHAT YOU ARE MOST PASSIONATE ABOUT
What is the one thing that you do, that even if it is your job at work, you enjoy doing it so much as if it were merely a hobby or pastime, and you would easily lose track of time while doing it? What is the one thing that you do that you get so excited just thinking about it, that you can hardly wait to go back to it? What is the one thing that you are so passionate about doing, that even if you got paid extremely well working in a particular field, career or profession, you still wouldn't mind doing it for free?
For example, perhaps you get caught up in the moment while repairing cars in your garage. Perhaps you lose track of time transferring your thoughts to paper, writing one sentence after another. Or perhaps you are the first person in your household to wake up in the morning, energized to practice and prepare for another winning sports victory. Or perhaps your mind-boggling research or intriguing proposal is what will land you to celebrate closing your next big deal.
What's the one thing you do that excites you the most, that you find to be most rewarding and fulfilling, that gets you all lit up like a Christmas tree? This clue most likely indicates this is one of your assets -- your strongest passion.
Whenever life seems to throw you for a loop and you begin to have self doubt about your existence, stand firm.
Be reminded of these 4 clues that can help you identify your strongest assets to know your life's purpose:
1. The one subject matter that most burdens your heart
2. The one thing you do most naturally
3. The one thing you are most skilled at
4. The one thing you are most passionate about
Compose your life's mission statement by combining your strongest asset in all four of these categories.
