Did you know that self-confidence is a key ingredient to having success in life?
However, there are many who seem to lack having self-confidence in either all or certain areas of their life that would enable them to achieve their goals, sustain the fulfillment they desire in order to be successful, and have a better quality of life.
What is self-confidence?
Self-confidence is defined as; a feeling of trust in one's abilities, qualities and judgement; one's belief that a task can be met.
Of all the successful people you know and admire because of their self-confidence, who is the first person that comes to mind, and why? Perhaps your idea of a self-confident person is a celebrity, professional athlete, colleague, close friend or family member.
Because of day-to-day interactions with different people, others may also admire you for having self-confidence in ways that you may not even think about concerning yourself. Perhaps it could be that you don't view yourself as having self-confidence because you may often focus on things you are displeased with about yourself, such as noticeable or even subtle physical imperfections, a job or career you haven't yet thrived in, or a relationship you may be insecure in.
Imagine if there were two of you -- if you had a counterpart or an avatar so to speak, and you met yourself face-to-face for the first time. At this moment in your life, would your counterpart or avatar see yourself oozing with self-confidence? Better still, take a nice, long look at yourself in the mirror. How much self-confidence would you say is glowing all over you right now?
Chances are that if you are reading this, you would like to have a greater measure of self-confidence in all or certain areas of your life. And you can do so, starting now.
Here are 4 tips on how you can have self-confidence:
1. TRUST YOURSELF
If you were at one time thriving in self-confidence, it can be easy to lack self-confidence after you've made a mistake or a decision you were not pleased with. You may feel incompetent or embarrassed about what you've done. You may engage in self-sabotage by speaking negatively about yourself. Watch your words though. It's bad enough that others may try to bring you down to discourage you and your efforts -- so don't do it to yourself -- rather, encourage yourself. There is no need to beat yourself up emotionally by putting yourself down. We all make mistakes at some point in life...we're only human. Trust that your existence is significant, and you are one to be valued.Trust your judgement in dealing with others, having good character and making better decisions. Trust yourself enough to know that others can trust you here and now.
We all make choices based on what we thought may have been the best thing to do at the time, or we didn't know any better, yet we may have regretted later on. The key is owning up to what you've done, and learning from those mistakes and choices so better actions can be taken going forward. Trust yourself to the extent that because you are not the mistake or unwise choice that you may have caused, and that you can and will do better next time you are faced with a similar situation in order to rise above it. Even if it may seem like you're failing at times, hold your head up high and press forward. Trust yourself during the process, along with the process itself.

2. DON'T COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS
It can be somewhat depressing when you learn about the successes of others while you may be at a standstill in life. A relative, friend or co-worker may go on and on about the next great thing happening in their life as you see their posts on social media. You may watch celebrity news and learn about yet another story that you can't seem to figure out how it became "news" in the first place.
You may feel inadequate and find yourself comparing yourself to others, as if you don't measure up, believing you don't have what it takes to be successful as you set out to pursue your own endeavors. Everyone has had different experiences that led them to a path in life that has enabled them to do what they do, and the way they do it -- including you. You do not need to compare yourself to anyone else, because we are all unique in our own way. No one can do what you do or be who you are in the exact way. If no one else believes in you or what you can do, you have to be the one to believe in yourself. Don't give up. You got this.
Your experiences, skills, knowledge and ideas have helped mold and shape you into becoming who you are -- and there is still more of you to become. Tap into that spark igniting within you, waiting to burst into that which you have conceived in your mind that you believe is possible to achieve. Instead of comparing yourself to others, become inspired by the successes and accomplishments of others. Ultimately, be reminded that you already have it in you -- that you have what it takes to be, do or have what is indeed possible for you. It's the stuff that dreams are made of -- believe it for yourself.
3. REMEMBER YOUR PAST SUCCESSES
At times you may consider yourself to be a failure when it seems as if nothing is going right in your life. Lately, you may feel like everything you seem to touch just crumbles right in front of your eyes. If your measure of self-confidence seems like it has in some way diminished, think about all the times when you were successful. Bask in the moment of your victories over the course of your life. Think of your pleasant memories as fuel to reignite your energy of excitement toward boosting your self-confidence.
Take a look around and notice your trophies, medals, awards, diplomas, certifications and other credentials you may have achieved and acquired. Think about the lives of people you have impacted in a positive way. Allow your past successes to be a reminder that if you've done it before, you can be successful again in other meaningful endeavors of your life.

4. BECOME BETTER THAN BEFORE
You know how the saying goes, "practice makes perfect." The more you do a thing, the better you'll become at it. This is true in all things, good or bad. Always focus on being a better version of yourself each day. Maintain daily self-care. Appreciate your positive attributes and qualities. Continue to educate yourself and learn new things that will help you be and do [what you already know how to be and do] in a much better way.
Whatever that good, positive and right thing is that helps define you, continue to do that and make it better than you did the day before. For example, when you make it a habit to eat healthy and exercise daily, it becomes a lifestyle choice, and the results of what you do will eventually show. Anything you do on a regular basis in life [and yes, that means anything], will ultimately reveal itself for what it actually is. Therefore, take inspired action daily to be who you are and do what you do in the best way. Let your actions speak and show for itself to prove favorable on your behalf. Be pleased with yourself as you put forth proactive effort to become a better you, as you do you.
Self-confidence is not a one and done deal, it is an on-going process. Make the decision to have confidence in yourself so you can be, do, and have your absolute best in life.
